(249521) Truth is an asteroid located in the central main belt that was discovered by the Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer ( IAU code C51) on April 6, 2010, an unmanned space telescope operated by NASA that began operations in January 2010. The asteroid had already been sighted in January 2000 under the provisional designation 2000 AO 199 as part of the LONEOS project of the Lowell Observatory in Arizona and in October 2008 (2008 TJ 26 ) at the Mount Lemmon Survey , also in Arizona.
The mean diameter of the asteroid was roughly calculated to be 4.724 (± 0.972) km, the albedo as 0.042 (± 0.016). So with (249521) Truth a very dark surface can be assumed. The solar orbit of the asteroid is strongly elliptical with an eccentricity of 0.3030 and strongly inclined to the ecliptic of the solar system by more than 27 ° .
(249521) Truth was named on July 12, 2014 at the suggestion of a team of astrophysicist Carrie Nugent after the American abolitionist and suffragette Sojourner Truth (1797-1883). A Venus crater on the northern hemisphere of the Venus was named after Sojourner Truth in 1994 : Venus Crater Truth .
