(2572) Annschnell ( 1950 DL ; 1969 LE ; 1977 SF ; 1980 JN ) is an approximately three-kilometer asteroid of the inner main belt that was discovered on February 17, 1950 by the German (then: Federal Republic of Germany ) astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth at the State Observatory in Heidelberg -Königstuhl was discovered on the western summit of the Königstuhl near Heidelberg ( IAU code 024).

designation

(2572) Annschnell was named after the Austrian astronomer Anneliese Schnell (1941–2015) who worked at the University Observatory Vienna (IAU code 045). Although she mainly studied variable stars , she was concerned with problems in the history of astronomy , in particular with the meaning of the names and the circumstances in which the asteroids discovered by Johann Palisa , after whom the asteroid (914) Palisana was named. Schnell was the first woman on the board of the Astronomical Society from 1974 to 1980 - more than a century after it was founded.
