(2796) Kron ( 1980 EC ; 1976 HL ) is an approximately nine kilometers large asteroid of the main middle belt that was discovered on March 13, 1980 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Lowell Observatory , Anderson Mesa Station ( Anderson Mesa ) in the Was discovered near Flagstaff , Arizona ( IAU code 688). It belongs to the Eunomia family , a group of asteroids named after (15) Eunomia .
designation
(2796) Kron was named after the American astronomer Gerald Kron (1913–2012) who worked at the Lick Observatory (IAU code 662) and director of the United States Naval Observatory ( Flagstaff Station , IAU code 689) from 1965 to 1973. As a pioneer of astronomical photometry , he published a large amount of high-precision photometric measurements of stars , galaxy clusters and galaxies .
