(5009) Sethos is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomer couple Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld . The discovery was made as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey , during which Tom Gehrels examined field plates recorded at the University of Leiden with the 120 cm Oschin Schmidt telescope of the Palomar observatory ( IAU code 675) .

It was named on September 1, 1993 after the Egyptian pharaoh of the 19th Dynasty ( New Kingdom ) Seti I , who lived around 1290 to 1279 BC. Ruled. He had a huge temple built in Abydos , of which the mortuary temple of Seti I is still very well preserved. The mortuary temple in Thebes and the hypostyle hall in the Karnak temple in Karnak also fall under his construction activities.
