(5102) BenFranklin is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 2 September 1986 by Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos at Kleť Observatory ( IAU code 046) near the town of Cesky Krumlov in Bohemia was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the North American printer , publisher , writer , scientist , inventor and statesman Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790), who was involved in drafting the United States' Declaration of Independence and drafting the American Constitution .
