(72060) Hohhot is an asteroid of the main inner belt . It was discovered on December 23, 2000 by the Canadian astronomer of Hong Kong origin William Kwong Yu Yeung at the Desert Beaver Observatory near Eloy , Arizona ( IAU code 919). It previously had unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid on May 22 and 24, 1998 (1998 KB 31 ) at the Lincoln Laboratory Experimental Test System in Socorro , New Mexico, and on August 8 and 9, 1999 (1999 PF 1 ) at the Prescott Observatory in given near Prescott , Arizona.
The asteroid belongs to the Nysa group, a group of asteroids named after (44) Nysa (also called the Hertha family, after (135) Hertha ). The timeless (non- osculating ) orbital elements of (72060) Hohhot are almost identical to those of the larger one, assuming the absolute brightness of 14.7 compared to 15.2, asteroids (21823) 1999 TX 72 .
(72060) Hohhot was named after Hohhot on July 30, 2007 , the capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the People's Republic of China .
