(8077) Hoyle is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 12 January 1986 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County , Arizona was discovered.
The asteroid was named on July 26, 2000 after the British astronomer and mathematician Fred Hoyle (1915-2001), who was one of the world's leading theorists of astrophysics due to his scientific non-conformism .
