(85030) Admetos is an asteroid belonging to the group of Jupiter Trojans . This describes asteroids that orbit the sun on the Lagrange points on the orbit of the planet Jupiter . It is assigned to the Lagrange point L 4 , that is (85030) Admetos is leading Jupiter by 60 ° in its orbit around the sun.

The asteroid was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomer couple Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld . The discovery came about as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey , during which Tom Gehrels examined field plates recorded at the University of Leiden with the 120 cm Oschin Schmidt telescope of the Palomar observatory .

(85030) Admetos was named after Admetos , the father of Eumelos . With the help of Apollo, Admetos managed to drive a chariot pulled by wild animals such as lions and wild boars. Trojans running ahead are named after Greek heroes. It was named on September 28, 2004.

The Unicode symbol U + 2BE5 (11237) with the designation "Admetos" is not intended to symbolize the asteroid (85030) Admetos, but a hyopethetic astrological planet.
