(9684) Olieslagers is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the Dutch astronomer couple Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld . The discovery came about as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey , during which Tom Gehrels examined field plates recorded at the University of Leiden with the 120 cm Oschin Schmidt telescope of the Palomar observatory .
The celestial body was named on July 5, 2001 after the Belgian art and fighter pilot Jan Olieslagers (1883-1942), who carried out the first overland flight between two cities in the Netherlands in 1910.
