1942: A Love Story is a Hindi - Drama by Vidhu Vinod Chopra from the year 1994 .
action
In the summer of 1942, many Indians demanded independence, but the government of the British Empire reacted harshly and negatively. General Douglas in particular shows no mercy and has all those who are against British rule hanged. When he wants to come to a small town at the foot of the Himalayas for a short time , his death is already being planned by revolutionaries.
Raghuvir Pathak travels to the small town to build a bomb. Meanwhile his daughter Rajeshwari, called Rajjo, falls in love with Naren, the son of the magistrate Diwan Hari Singh. She confesses her love for Naren, which angered her father. Naren reassures him by stating that he has nothing to do with political issues. On the contrary, after all the events between the British and Indians, he would be on the side of the revolutionaries.
Naren is supported by his mother Gayatridevi. She gives him Sindur to marry the love of his life, whereupon he sets off. His father finds out about this and sends soldiers to Raghuvir. Naren tries to stop the soldiers while Rajjo is helped by her father to escape. Raghuvir sets off a bomb in the house and kills himself and some soldiers.
At that moment Shubankar appears, a friend of the Pathak family who was supposed to detonate the bomb. He escapes into the forest with Rajjo and later both find accommodation with a friend.
Naren is arrested in an attempted assassination attempt on General Douglas. Shubankar uses a trick to set the building on fire in order to kill the general and to save the deathly sentenced Naren. Major Hisht also opposes the British because his daughter was killed in the uprising. He also kills Naren's father. Ultimately, Naren is saved and the general is hanged by Shubankar.
