2nd Bundesliga baseball 2017
The 2nd Bundesliga 2017 was the first season after a comprehensive league reform in which the 2nd Bundesliga was combined with the regional leagues. This increased the number of teams from 16 to 42 and the two divisions North and South were each divided into three groups. Due to geographical considerations, the new groups had between five and nine teams.
Groups with seven or more teams played a double header with one game over nine and one over seven innings in a round-trip round. Since they have fewer than seven teams, the Northeast group played an additional "first round". From the top ranked teams eligible for promotion in the groups in a division, those interested in promotion determined a promoted player in play-offs .

The following 42 teams took part in the 2017 season, divided into the two divisions North and South. Since their places did not meet the requirements for the 2nd Bundesliga, the Hünstetten Storm played their home games in Mainz and the Kaiserslautern Bears always played away.

The Stealers won the direct comparison against the Knights 3: 1, the Regents against the Sluggers 4: 2. The Wallbreakers had the better team quality balance compared to the 89ers.

Darmstadt had the better team quality balance compared to Hünstetten, as did Tübingen compared to Stuttgart and Ulm with Heidenheim. Gauting won the direct comparison with Deggendorf with 3: 1.
Climbers
North
In the north-west group, Bonn and Paderborn were not eligible for promotion, which is why Neunkirchen was granted promotion rights as third place. Thus Neunkirchen, the Bremen Dockers as first place in the group North and the Berlin Flamingos as the first place in the group Northeast in a group of three for the promotion. Each team played a double header against the other two over 9 innings each, with each team playing once at home and once away. The first placed in this group rose directly, the second placed played the relegation against the last placed in the play-downs of the 1st Bundesliga North.

The games between Berlin and Bremen were both rated 9-0 for Berlin because Bremen used a player who was not eligible to play.

Bremen was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga North and Dortmund was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga North.
south
In the south-west group, Darmstadt, Hünstetten and Heidelberg waived the right of ascent, in the south-east group Regensburg and Haar were not entitled to ascent, Gauting waived. In the group south, Neuchâtel and Tübingen did not exercise their right of promotion, Stuttgart was not entitled to promotion. Thus Ulm rose to the 1st Bundesliga South.
