2071: Mutan Beasts Against Robots is an American science fiction film from 1964 . Directed by Ib Melchior . Preston Foster , Philip Carey and Merry Anders played the leading roles . The premiere in Germany took place on September 18, 1970.

action

In 1971 a group of scientists succeeded in developing a time machine. An electrician who is present enters the time portal during the test, whereupon the three scientists follow him to bring him back. When the group is in the time portal, they do not know whether they are in the future or the past, or in which year they are. The portal collapses and suddenly they are attacked by mutants from whom they are hiding in a cave. In this cave system secured by force fields, they encounter a group of technologically highly developed people. As it turns out, these are the last normal people on earth. Time travelers learn that they are in the year 2071. Mankind has now almost completely annihilated itself in a nuclear war and the earth has been turned into barren wasteland, which is populated by degenerate mutants who can hardly find any food. Humans have developed androids to relieve them of the hard and dangerous work and to protect them from the raiding mutants.

The last humans no longer see any breeding ground for future life on earth, which is why they want to leave the planet with their self-made rocket in order to colonize a suitable planet in the nearest star system Alpha Centauri . Since the spaceship was only equipped for the current population, the time travelers have to be left behind, otherwise the supplies would not be sufficient on the long flight. In their desperation, the group builds the time portal again to hopefully get back to their time. Shortly before the colony ship is completely manned and can start according to the schedule, the mutants overcome the barriers and attack. Just as the pilot is about to make an emergency start to the rocket, the mutants blow up the control center and it explodes. Only a small group of people and the time travelers can hide at the time gate and at the last second arrive in 1971, at the university, from where the first time jump took place. Once there, however, they notice that time has almost stood still for them in extreme slow motion and they meet themselves shortly before the first time jump. But their own passage of time is extremely accelerated; they cannot operate the machines and would die of aging within minutes. As a last resort, you decide to go through the open time portal and land a hundred thousand years in the future. The earth has recovered and is full of plant life. At the end you can see how the course of the action repeats itself as a constant time loop .

The film was produced by American International Pictures . The American science fiction writer Forrest J Ackerman made a cameo as a robot technician in this film .

The Protestant film observer thinks that the work is an "interesting science fiction topic", but it is "unfortunately a bit amateurish and illogical in places."
