Kyalami 9 hour race in 1970
The 1970 Kyalami 9 Hour Race , also known as The Thirteenth Rand Daily Mail Nine Hour Endurance Race , took place on November 7, 1970 at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit . The race was the first round of the South African Sports Car Championship in 1970 .
The race
On the circuit of Kyalami in the 1960s and 1970s, one found endurance race with the unusual temporal length of nine hours instead, which corresponded to 1970 at a distance of about 1500 kilometers. The race was part of the South African Sports Car Championship , also known as the South African Springbok Trophy Series , which was held on racetracks in South Africa and Rhodesia from 1965 to 1973 .
In 1970 works teams from Europe were represented in this race, which also faced each other in the sports car world championship of that year . The overall victory went to Jacky Ickx and Ignazio Giunti in a plant - Ferrari 512 .
