Cinderella Story 4 - If the Shoe Fits ... (original title: A Cinderella Story: If the Shoe Fits ) is an American music - comedy film from the year 2016 by director Michelle Johnston . The leading roles are played by Sofia Carson , Thomas Law and Jennifer Tilly .

If the shoe fits ... after Cinderella Story (2004), Another Cinderella Story (2008) and Cinderella Story - Once Upon a Time a Song (2011) is the fourth part of the Cinderella Story series. The film was released as video-on-demand on August 2, 2016 .

Tessa Golding is forced to accompany her stepmother Divine and her stepsisters Athena and Olympia to a Cinderella musical casting to work as Divine's assistant. Divine hopes that one of her daughters will get the lead role in the Cinderella musical and thereby a record deal. Tessa, an enthusiastic mechanic, would like to take part in the competition herself, but Divine forbids her to do so. At the resort where the competition takes place, she befriends the make-up artist Georgie. One evening Georgie persuades Tessa to enter the competition under a false identity. Tessa reluctantly agrees and when she realizes that no one recognizes her, she takes part in the contest. Divine is not enthusiastic about the new one and therefore wants to keep an eye on her.

At the casting, Tessa can convince the emerging pop star Reed West, who plays the main role in the musical, and he gives her the role. Since Tessa fled after the casting and lost a sneaker in the process, Reed announces that whoever owns the shoe will be given the lead. All candidates, including Athena and Olympia, start looking for the shoe. After a conversation with Georgie, Tessa finally goes to Reed, disguised as Bella, and gets the lead role.

At the same time, Reed hired Tessa as a mechanic for the motorcycle that is needed in the musical. The two get to know each other better and Tessa falls in love with Reed. In addition, she has to fulfill her dual role, because Divine distrusts Bella and Tessa is afraid of being exposed. Shortly before the performance, Tessa learns from Reed's manager Freddie Marks that Reed wants to propose to his friend Harper Halston, whose parents own the resort. Tessa and Bella turn away from Reed, which Reed does not understand because he has fallen in love with Tessa himself. Divine also finds out that Bella is really Tessa and locks her in her room. Divine determines that her daughter Athena will take over the role of Bella. This leads to a dispute between Athena and Olympia. Tessa is able to escape from her room using the ventilation system and appears as Tessa in the musical. Reed is surprised and happy at the same time because he can finally confess his love to Tessa. Tessa receives a record deal and leaves with Reed.
