The majority of the reviews on the album were average to good. The average rating of the English-speaking critics is 67 out of 100 points, according to Metacritic . A Hundred Million Suns was also largely well received in Germany , even if Thomas Klaus from Laut.de notices how strongly the songs are in the mainstream . Overall, it is still referred to as a “little ray of hope”. Despite all the radio suitability that is criticized by Whiskey-with-Soda-de , the author of the computer image in the songs can also be seen experimentally. The CD is rated as "excellent" from the side.

From the chart high rankings was A Million Hundred Suns roughly the level of the successful predecessor Eyes Open with. Although the album did not land at number 1 on the British album charts again, it was significantly more successful than Eyes Open in the USA at number 9 . In the longer term, however, it turned out to be a flop compared to the 2006 album, because while Eyes Open achieved seven-fold platinum status in Great Britain and just one in the USA, only one platinum record was awarded in Great Britain for the new work Snow Patrols.
