history

Dewangen was first mentioned in a document in 1298 when Konrad von Weinsberg exchanged property there with the empire . The place, which in the 14th century was called Tenwangen , Denewangen or Dinwang , was under the feudal lordship of the Ellwangen Monastery until the 14th century . From this the Schwäbisch Gmünder family Im Steinhaus bought the sovereignty, which in turn sold it to the Gmünder Heilig-Geist-Spital in 1427 . The imperial city of Gmünd exercised sovereignty over the village as the representative of its hospital and in 1584 issued a local constitution. In 1803 the place became part of the Electorate (since 1806 Kingdom) Württemberg and was incorporated into the newly established Oberamt Aalen .

The Catholic parish church of the Assumption of Mary was built in 1820, but it also has older parts of the building, the tower from the 13th century with its early Gothic rib vault on the ground floor, the large cross from the Ulm school on the high altar from 1400 and the kneeling Madonna from the end of the 15th century.

On January 1, 1973 Dewangen was incorporated into Aalen .
