Aaron Sachs

Aaron Sachs (* 4. July 1923 in New York City ; † 5. June 2014 ) was an American jazz - saxophonist ( tenor and alto saxophone ), flutist and clarinetist , bandleader and composer of swing and modern jazz .

Live and act

Sachs began to occupy himself with music at the age of twelve and learned to play the saxophone as an autodidact. At the beginning of his musical career he played in swing bands - sponsored by Benny Goodman - with Babe Russin 1941, Red Norvo 1941/42, Van Alexander 1942/43, again with Red Norvo 1943/44 and with Benny Goodman 1945/46. Due to illness he was musically inactive in 1948/49. After that, Sachs, who had in the meantime approached bebop , worked partly as a freelance musician, partly with Earl Hines in 1952/53 with Tito Rodríguez and Louie Bellson in 1959.

In 1948 he married the singer Helen Merrill .

In the 1950s he also led his own formation with which he records a. a. recorded and toured for Dawn . In it played Jimmy Cleveland , Joe Roland , Dick Garcia and Osie Johnson . In 1955 he was involved in the legendary Modern Jazz Society - A Concert of Contemporary Music , initiated by John Lewis , Gunther Schuller and JJ Johnson .

In the 1960s, Sachs was more concerned with Latin jazz , working with Machito , Tito Puente and Tito Rodríguez . Aaron Sachs wrote the hit song "El Mundo De Las Locas" for him.

In the course of his career, Aaron Sachs has been on recordings with Stan Getz , Sarah Vaughan , Chet Baker , Dizzy Gillespie , Eddie Heywood , Billie Holiday , Red Norvo , Gene Krupa , Anita O'Day , Cozy Cole , Charlie Shavers , Tom Talbert and Charlie Ventura involved. He is considered one of the first bebop clarinetists.
