Abraham Escudero Montoya

Abraham Escudero Montoya (born January 24, 1940 in Urrao , Colombia , † November 6, 2009 in Valle del Lili, Cali , Colombia) was Bishop of Palmira .

Life

Abraham Escudero Montoya studied at the seminary in Medellin and received on 8 June 1968, the priestly ordination . He studied psychology at the Universidad de Antioquia and obtained a PhD in spiritual theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was Professor and Director of the Minor Seminary and Spiritual of the Medellín Seminary. He was also involved as director of the Paul VI House, for youth pastoral care, and was later episcopal vicar for religious in the Archdiocese of Medellín.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Risinium on May 22, 1986 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Medellín . He was ordained episcopal on June 21st of the same year by the Archbishop of Medellín , Cardinal Alfonso López Trujillo ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Buga , Rodrigo Arango Velásquez PSS , and José Roberto López Londoño , Auxiliary Bishop in Medellín.

He was made bishop of El Espinal on April 30, 1990 by Pope John Paul II and on February 2, 2007 by Pope Benedict VI. appointed Bishop of Palmira. Among other things, he was Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical University of Bolivariana .

At the age of 69 he died of complications from diabetes on November 6th, 2009 in the clinic of the Valle del Lili, Cali. The regional government of Valle del Cauca honored him posthumously with the official decree 1520 for his socio-political commitment.
