The Nägelesbach is a creek in northeastern Baden-Württemberg of 5.9 km in length, which flows into the Kocher from the right and southeast between the two eponymous villages of the municipality of Sulzbach-Laufen in the Schwäbisch Hall district . His valley gorge is called the Abtsblade .

geography

course

The Nägelesbach arises at the upper end of a meadow basin on the southeast edge of the Sulzbacher hamlet Hohenberg , at the foot of the Altenberg rising in the east at about 494  m above sea level. NN . After a short south-west run, it turns south in its hollow and passes a few individual courtyards and residential areas of the scattered settlement community. Then it enters the valley forest, takes its first large tributary Seewaldbach from the left, which is noticeably higher than itself below the southern tip of the Altenberg a source at about 530  m above sea level. NN rises. From this inlet, a gravel forest path follows the stream to the end of the valley on the edge of the Kocheraue. The strengthened Nägelesbach pulls through its ravine-like Abtsklinge further south, until a further tributary flows into the parallel inflow from the east a little northwest of the Falschengehren residential area.

In the direction of this, the brook continues west to a valley spider , to which the Igelsbach flows from the south and shortly afterwards a brook from the Haselklinge from the north. Here the blade is already 70-80 m deepened into the surrounding plateau, after which the incision becomes significantly deeper and wider. Where the forest path that runs from the valley spider on the left slope sinks to the bottom and crosses the stream, the valley floor, which has now become wider, opens up into a meadow. The brook soon turns to the northwest and moves past the right slope at the foot of the Sulzbacher Hof Egelsbach into the Kocher valley. At its edge, its largest tributary, Heiligenbach, flows from the right . Immediately afterwards it crosses under the B 19 and then flows less than 300 m further down into its broad floodplain from the right and southeast between Laufen and Sulzbach north of the Kransberg, which is surrounded by the river, at 366  m above sea level. NN in the cooker .

Catchment area

The Nägelesbach with its tributaries drains the southwestern slope of the Sulzbach forest in the Altenberg area through steep and wooded Klingen valleys to the Kocher .

Its catchment area is 7.4 km² in size, over 90% of which is in the area of the municipality of Sulzbach-Laufen ; the remaining 0.6 km² is a western nose of the Adelmannsfelden municipality marker, which extends between the upper left tributaries of the Seewaldbach and the creek north of the small Falschengehren clearing island to the eastern bank of the Nägelesbach.

The longest stretch of the catchment area measures around 3.8 km, from the northeast on the double summit of 564.7  m above sea level. NN high Altenberg up to the mouth at about 336  m above sea level. NN into the cooker at its western tip. Less than a sixth of its total area lies to the right of this ideal line, because it extends quite far to the south through the initial southern course of the brook; therefore it reaches an extension of about 3.3 km in north-south direction.

Almost three quarters of the catchment area is forested, the remaining strong quarter are mainly covered by meadows, over which some of the many individual farms in the municipality of Sulzbach-Laufen are scattered. The Offenland lies mainly on the long ridge between the Nägelesbach and Heiligenbachklinge, in and around the meadow basin of the upper stream near Hohenberg or on a parallel ridge between Heiligenbach and the neighboring Mühlenbach.

Starting at the mouth, the watershed runs across the ridge between Heiligenbach and the Mühlenbach, which flows into the Kocher downstream in Sulzbach, through Mühlenberg and the Hägeleshöfle to the northeast.

It then roughly follows the route of the coal road to the east to Hohenberg in front of the Altenberg on top of the plateau and climbs its tower-stocked northern tip in an arc to the south. Up to there competes across the Hambach , which drains over the Klingenbach into the Bühler . On the short stretch to the southern tip of the mountain, the Bühler tributary Gerabronner Bach drains the other side of the slope.

After that, the watershed runs south for a long time in front of the catchment area to the east of the Rötenbach, which flows into the Kocher above, and separates Falschengehren in its small clearing from the Abtsgmünder hamlet of Wegstetten outside. Then the borderline swings in an arc to the west, dividing the Laufen hamlet of Schönbronn with its clearing island, and then follows the ridge path of Heerstraße close to the Bachklinge through the Laufen residential area Teutschenhof and its hamlet Heerberg with its mountain church on the Kransberg ; On this section, apart from the Lehenbach , only insignificant watercourses drain from the beginning to the Kocher, which is already quite close in the south. The short fall line from the Kransberg to the mouth then closes the contour of the watershed.

Municipalities and localities

At the uppermost course of the Nägelesbach, the Hohenberg soft patch borders on the right . First Altenberg lies above its south-facing meadow basin on the left at the lower foot of the mountain of the same name, then Engelsburg and Neuhorlachen on the right on the plateau in front of its forest entry, all of the farms and residential areas of the Sulzbach-Laufen community at a distance of 100 to 200 meters.

The next and at the same time last settlement in the vicinity of the course is the Egelsbach farm again, which is 50 meters away on the path of the K 2634 on the right slope above the northwestern lower course.

In addition to the settlements mentioned, there are also a chain of scattered settlement areas in the catchment area on the mountain ridge moving east-northeast along or next to the above-mentioned county road after its climbing route, namely successively Aichenrain and the Ochsenhalde, Haslach, Grauhöfle and Öchsenhöfle; in addition on the north-west parallel ridge between the Heiligenbach and the Mühlenbach the places Mühlenberg and Hägeleshöfle; on the right slope of the Heiligenbach at the entrance to the Kocher valley the Kleinteutschenhof. All previous ones are on the Sulzbacher submark.

In addition, there is the Falschengehren farm, which lies lonely in its small forest clearing on the left above the middle Nägelesbachlauf, on the Laufen partial marking; half of the hamlet of Schönbronn on the southern watershed; Parts of the Teutschenhof and Laufen in the area of Heerstrasse and Heerberg, which are on the ridge to the left of the lower reaches.

Protected areas

From the lower western reaches of the Nägelesbach, the valley floor and the slopes up to halfway up belong to the landscape protection area "Kochertal with adjacent mountain ranges", it includes some sloping forest. Almost the entire forest runs of the Nägelesbach and tributaries are under biotope protection.

Large areas in the catchment area are water protection areas, namely 97 hectares between a line on the northern tip of the Altenberg - Öchsenhöfle in the northwest and the Seewaldbach in the southeast, with also a small area on the southeast slope of the Altenberg beyond the watershed; 26.52 hectares with and around the false clearing; 8.81 hectares near Aichenrain in the drainage area of a right secondary blade not listed here under the tributaries.

geology

The Nägelesbach runs overall in the Mittelkeuper . Its origin near Hohenberg is in the Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein Formation ), that of the higher Seewaldbach brook, on the other hand, in the Marl ( Trossingen Formation ). For example, at the mentioned valley spider, where Igelbach and the inlet from the Haselklinge flow, it cuts into the lower colored marl ( Steigerwald formation ) and between its north-west turn on the Unterlauf and the Egelsbach farm it reaches the reed sandstone ( Stuttgart formation ), at the entrance to Kochertal then the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld formation ), in which it also flows.

The highest geological layer in the catchment area is the isolated lias on the summit of the Altenberg .
