Achille Demagbo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Achille Demagbo (born 1980 or 1981 in Benin ) is a German politician ( AfD ) and interpreter of Benin origin, member of the AfD Berlin and employee of the AfD parliamentary group . Before that he was a founding member and chairman of the Kiel AfD district association and a member of the state board of AfD Schleswig-Holstein . As a politician of African descent with dark skin in the AfD, he received nationwide media attention.

Life

Demagbo grew up with a sister and three brothers in Benin, West Africa . His parents worked as teachers, raised their children strictly and managed to get up from the simplest of backgrounds. According to his own statements, he was already interested in the humanities as a student , especially in philosophy and sociology , where he noticed "that the German thinkers, the German philosophers, are particularly rational, particularly systematically coordinated in the way they present their ideas." he fell in love with German thinking, especially Immanuel Kant and Friedrich Nietzsche .

In 2003 he came to Germany to study linguistics . He felt like a German, the country had become his second home. He has never had problems with racism : “The Germans are not xenophobic. They appreciate everyone who comes here and observes German culture, adheres to social norms. ”But he noticed that people were being misinformed, for example that“ everything that is right of the SPD [...] is against foreigners ” which is not true. Political reality is being pushed to the left , which creates a vacuum because a large part of the population no longer feels represented. Achievements would be "sacrificed on the political altar in favor of left-wing political experimentation."

Demagbo has had German citizenship since 2015 . He worked as an interpreter and lived in the Gaarden district of Kiel , which is considered a social hotspot . Many of his friends are Turks, Albanians, Kurds, Syrians, most of them well-integrated children of guest workers. The only problematic are people who do not integrate, which is not checked enough: “You just take them all. That is why we have parallel companies in Germany. That's why we have forced marriages and child marriages, people who adhere to the Sharia, who do not adhere to our democratic values. "

politics

In 2013 Demagbo joined the AfD. He explained that as a migrant he could not be against immigration, nor was the AfD. For her it is only a matter of taking in “sensibly”, in a regulated form. Demagbo sees itself as value conservative . With this attitude he was also able to win over Germans from Russia , Turks and Kurds for the AfD. Twenty or thirty years ago he would have decided in favor of the CDU , which however “drifted to the left”, while the AfD had taken up earlier CDU positions. Accusations of racism against the AfD are unfounded, and Alexander Gauland has also played with his children. In response to the words of the Thuringian AfD chairman Björn Höcke of the “life-affirming African spread type”, Demagbo said that it was “positive, I am life-affirming”. Germany gave him everything, he now wants to give something back.

At the time of party leader Bernd Lucke, Demagbo identified himself as "70 percent Lucke, 30 percent Petry ". Lucke spontaneously motivated him to join the party through a talk show appearance. During the power struggle between Lucke and Petry in 2015 , he said: "The party needs both wings, the economically liberal and the national conservative, so Bernd Lucke and Frauke Petry." After the split in the AfD, however, he broke with Lucke out of disappointment.

In 2015, he declared that the immigration of workers should be based exclusively on local needs, for example through an immigration law with a point system based on the Canadian model. However, war refugees should be given humanitarian aid at all times. The Kopernikus-Gymnasium in Bargteheide invited him to a panel discussion organized by students on the refugee problem. However, after threats of boycotts and disruptions due to Demagbo's invitation, the event was canceled. Demagbo expressed "disappointed with so much hatred and incomprehension. Democracy involves debating different opinions. I find it very disappointing that the school management gave in to anti-democratic protests. "

Asked about statements by the AFD national executive member Gauland over Jerome Boateng , Demagbo stated that he had never had problems with neighbors in Germany: "Behind the single physical attack I've ever seen, stuck left students who have prevented me from a lecture to hold in the Lüneburg University. "

In November 2018, Demagbo declared at the AfD party conference for the 2019 European elections in Magdeburg that he was proud to be African, but warned: "We must not flood Germany with Africans because there are simply too many of them."

Demagbo was chairman of the Kiel district association of the AfD. At times he was also a member of the state board of AfD Schleswig-Holstein until he stepped down in 2017. He works for the AfD parliamentary group in Berlin and has been a member of the Berlin regional association since moving .

reception

Thomas Schmoll counted Demagbo in 2016 in the Flensburger Tageblatt as one of the moderate forces in his party who tried to differentiate. For example, at the height of the refugee crisis in Germany from 2015 onwards, he said publicly: “It's not about all of Islam. It is about that part of Islam that prescribes chopping off skulls, executing unbelievers and opposing any other worldview with violence. "

David Joram wrote in the taz that Demagbo's story was different from that of many refugees from West Africa. He was neither persecuted nor starved. The AfD fits in with the “social Darwinist racism [sic] that Demagbo knows from Benin”, so his political course is no coincidence.
