Adélaïde d'Orléans
Adélaïde d'Orléans , (full name Eugène Adélaïde Louise d'Orléans ), also called Mademoiselle d'Orléans (born August 23, 1777 in the Palais Royal in Paris , † December 31, 1847 in the Palais des Tuileries in Paris) was a member of the French royal family from the House of Orléans and sister of King Louis Philip I of France .
Life
Adélaïde and her twin sister Françoise (1777–1782) were the only daughters of Duke Ludwig Philip II Joseph of Orléans , who was guillotined in 1793 , and his wife Louise Marie Adélaïde de Bourbon-Penthièvre , daughter of Louis Jean Marie de Bourbon, duc de Penthièvre .
Thus she descended on the paternal side from the younger brother of Louis XIV , on the maternal side from the Comte de Toulouse , a legitimate son of Louis XIV. And Madame de Montespan . However, since she was also a descendant of the regent Philip II of Orléans and his wife Françoise Marie von Bourbon-Blois , a legitimate daughter of Louis XIV, she was a direct descendant of the Sun King in this way as well.
When the Count of Provence became King Louis XVIII in 1814 . ascended the French throne, they returned to France. In 1824 Madame Adélaïde , as she was now called, bought the Randan Castle and had it completely renovated. The July Revolution forced King Charles X to abdicate and went into exile in England. The financial bourgeoisie, whose protégé was her brother, came to power. Duke Louis Philippe of Orléans, a cousin of Charles X from the branch line of the Bourbons, became King of the French (the "Citizen King"). Then began the period of the " July Monarchy ", which was considered the golden age of the French bourgeoisie. Two months before the fall of her brother, to whom she was a loyal advisor and confidante, Princess Adélaïde of Orléans died and was buried in the Chapelle royale Saint-Louis at Dreux .
The rambler rose, bred by Antoine A. Jacques in 1826, was named in her honor.
