Adalbert von Taysen (born April 11, 1832 in Eutin , † July 10, 1906 in Schierke ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and military historian .

Life

Adalbert was the son of the Oldenburg colonel and commander of the Oldenburg infantry regiment Hans Georg von Taysen (1796–1856) and his wife Adele Wilhelmine Elise Emilie Marianne, born von Hirschfeld (1806–1832).

Military career

After attending grammar school in Oldenburg , Taysen joined the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment as a musketeer in 1848 and took part in the campaign against Denmark in 1848/49 . a. in the battle at Düppel . In 1849/51 he graduated from the Oldenburg Military School and from 1856/59 the General War School in Berlin. From 1862 to 1864 Taysen acted as orderly officer and military advisor to Duke Elimar von Oldenburg . In the German-Danish War he was a captain in the Main Army . On September 25, 1867 he was taken over as a company commander in Infantry Regiment No. 91 in the Prussian Army .

In the war against France in 1870/71, Taysen took part in the battles near Vionville , Gravelotte , Beaune-la-Rolande , Orléans , Le Mans and the siege of Metz . His achievements were recognized by the award of both classes of the Iron Cross and the Honorary Commander's Cross of the Oldenburg House and Merit Order of Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig with swords on the ring.

From 1874 he worked as a major in the General Staff and as a teacher at the War Academy in Berlin. In 1881 he was appointed head of the war history department. In 1885 he was promoted to colonel and in 1888 to major general . On September 17, 1886, the nobility and coat of arms were confirmed to him. On May 16, 1891 he was given the character of Lieutenant General and was put up for disposal on May 10, 1892 with a pension . In 1895 he was awarded the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves.

His historical interest was primarily Frederick the Great . Under his leadership the general staff work on the Franco-German War of 1870/71 was brought to an end.

His final resting place is in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .

family

Since September 20, 1864 Taysen was married to Albertine Wilhelmine, nee Clason (1839-1902). The marriage resulted in six children, including the future infantry general Friedrich von Taysen (1866–1940) and the later lieutenant general of the air force Georg Adalbert Helmut von Taysen (1878–1945).
