Adam Stanislaus Grabowski

Adam Stanislaus, called Grabowski (born September 3, 1698 in Groß Butzig (Wielki Buczek), † December 15, 1766 in Heilsberg ) was Prince-Bishop of Warmia from 1741 to 1766 and came from the Pomeranian noble family Grabowski . In 1766 Ignatius Krasicki was appointed coadjutor of Bishop Stanislaus.

Life

Stanislaus came from a family from the villages of Götzendorff and Grabau (formerly Gotzendorff zu Grabow). His mother was born von Kleist . Most recently, the family name was known as Götzendorff-Grabowski.

On November 26 In 1730 he was in the Archdiocese of Gniezno for priests ordained on June 22, 1733 the auxiliary bishop in Poznan , while the titular bishop of Nilopolis ordered. He was consecrated on August 18, 1733. On September 26, 1736 he was Bishop of Kulm , on July 15, 1739 Bishop of Kujawien . Appointed Prince-Bishop of Warmia on April 14, 1741 and confirmed by Pope Benedict XIV on September 18, he was installed in his office on December 8, 1741. By 1746 he had a summer residence built in Smolajny , on the high bank of the Łyna .

He received the order from the emperor to draw up a detailed map of Warmia. This map with all places in Warmia was made by Johann Friedrich Endersch in Elbing. On this map, the Duchy of Prussia of Endersch was referred to as Borussiae Orientalis (East Prussia). This designation was later officially introduced for eastern Prussia by Friedrich II .
