Adolf Dirr

Adolf Dirr (born December 17, 1867 in Augsburg ; † April 9, 1930 in Passau ) was a German philologist , linguist , ethnologist and Caucasus researcher .

life and work

His place of work was Tbilisi in Georgia . From 1913 until his death he was a curator at the Museum für Völkerkunde in Munich . During the First World War in 1918 he was a member of the German Caucasus Troops under General Kress von Kressenstein in Georgia. He made pioneering work in the field of Caucasian language research .

Caucasian fairy tale

His most popular work is his Caucasian tales titled translations of folk poetry of the Abkhazians , Aghulen , Artschiner , Avars , Hürkaner , Imereter , Kabarda , Karat Schiner , Mingrelians , sheets ( "Ghazikumuch") Kumüken , Küriner , Ossetians , Swaneten , Tabassaraner , deeds , Chechens , Uden and Zachuren , who were included in the collection The fairy tales of world literature . In 98 people are seals of the Caucasus -Nations presented: fairy tales , animal fables , Nartensagen , Rustamsagen , Prometheussagen , Polyphemsagen , legends of Solomon the Wise , legends of Alexander the Great , pranks , Schildbürger pranks , of Mullah Nasreddin .
