Adolf Theobald

Adolf Theobald (born March 14, 1930 in Koblenz ; † September 1, 2014 in Berlin ) was a German journalist , publishing manager , media consultant and publicist . He justified u. a. the magazines Capital , twen and natur .

Life

Theobald studied business administration ( business administration graduate ) at the University of Cologne and volunteered at Rheinischer Merkur in 1953 . He then worked for two years as editor of the magazine of the Junge Union Deutschlands (JU) The Decision .

In 1956, together with Stephan Wolf, he was the founding editor of the student magazine Perspektiven in Cologne , which was to establish itself as an alternative to the left student press. In 1957 he founded the self-published Illustrierte Student im Bild (with a circulation of 70,000 copies, soon to be the largest student magazine in Germany at the time) and in 1959, together with Stephan Wolf and Willy Fleckhaus , a graphic artist, the subsequent youth magazine twen . In 1960 they both sold their shares to the Munich publisher Th. Martens & Co. The sheet later served as a benchmark for Tempo and Neon .

From 1962 to 1971 he was the founding editor of the business magazine Capital in Hamburg. In 1972 he became a conceptionist and member of the management team at the publishing house Gruner + Jahr . In 1977 he was appointed to the management of the Swiss media company Ringier in Zurich as head of press coordination. He built up the environmental magazine natur in Munich and was editor-in-chief of the GEO reportage magazine in Hamburg from 1985 to 1987 . From 1987 to 1991 he was managing director of the Spiegel publishing house .

In addition, he worked as a consultant to the Poppen & Ortmann and Hodeige-Rombach publishing families (the families own the Badische Pressehaus with the main product Badische Zeitung ). Most recently he lived as a freelance journalist and media consultant in Munich . He published u. a. in the time , in the world , in the Badische Zeitung , in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , in the Cicero , in the Tagesspiegel and in the Spiegel .

Theobald was married. His son Alexander (* 1964) works on the management level of the Swiss media group Ringier.
