Adolf Zehlicke (born July 7, 1834 in Ludwigslust , † April 9, 1904 in Berlin ) was a German teacher and writer.

Life

Zehlicke was the son of the seminar director Carl Adolph Zehlicke (1807-1846) in Ludwigslust. After his early death, he attended the Friedrich-Franz-Gymnasium (Parchim) , which was under the direction of the Mecklenburg high school board and director Johannes Zehlicke (1791-1856). After graduating from high school , Zehlicke enrolled on April 19, 1856 at the University of Rostock for Protestant theology . After two semesters (2 May 1857) he moved to the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen to also Philology study. In 1858 he became active in the Onoldia Corps . He continued his studies at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and finished it in Rostock. In 1861 he became a teacher at the community school in Schwerin . 1865 doctorate he attended the University of Jena to Dr. phil. He did not feel at home in his native and (then still) feudal Mecklenburg. On Michaelmas of the same year he became rector of the Protestant lower secondary school in Bielsko-Biała , Galicia . On Christmas Eve 1865 he wrote to his corps:

“In Mecklenburg the ground burned under my feet. The disgraceful economy that rules there has incited me to the most energetic opposition. But my activity could not remain hidden from the nefarious sniffers. Several of my writings were banned, charged, and convicted. I felt more insecure day by day. Then I seized the opportunity to emigrate and took the job that I now hold. "

- Adolf Zehlicke

Since 1870 editor-in-chief of the Schleswig-Holsteinische Nachrichten , he was war correspondent in the Franco-German War . He then worked as a journalist for the Schlesische Zeitung in Breslau , the Deutsche Zeitung (1871–1907) in Vienna and for the Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung and the Spenersche Zeitung (1874) in Berlin. From 1887 he was director of the German East African Company and Colonization Society . For the 100th foundation festival of his corps (1898) he wrote 46 poems in the form of song texts. The first five are dedicated to Onoldia; one is a song of praise for Bavarian beer.

He died in the capital of the Reich three months before he was 70 years old .
