Adrian Nikçi (born November 10, 1989 in Sarajevo , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Swiss football player who also has the nationality of Kosovo . The midfielder has been under contract with FC Schaffhausen since June 2018 .
Club career
Nikci started playing football at FC Uster in 1995 . After six years he left the club for Zurich.
FC Zurich
In January 2002 he moved to the youth department of FC Zurich , with which he won the Blue Stars / FIFA Youth Cup in 2008. For the 2008/09 season , the midfielder was included in the first team of the FCZ. He also played 34 times this season and scored four goals. He became Swiss champion that season .
Hannover 96
For the season 2012/13 undertook Hannover 96 Nikci. He signed a three-year contract with Lower Saxony until June 30, 2015. In his first game for 96, he scored the 2-2 final against FC Schalke 04 . At the end of September 2012, Nikci fell ill with meningitis . He was released from the hospital after almost two weeks. Due to various injuries, illnesses and relapses in rehab, he only made four Bundesliga appearances and four appearances in the Europa League . In January 2014 he was loaned to FC Thun for the rest of the season. Shortly before, Hanover's new coach Tayfun Korkut had eliminated him from the squad.
National team
Nikci was a member of the Swiss U-21 national team . He made his last game for the selection on August 11, 2010 against the Greek U-21s .
Style of play
Nikci is especially valued for its enormous speed. In Switzerland he was considered the fastest player in the league with the ball at his feet. Hanover's former sporting director Jörg Schmadtke said about purchasing: “Adrian Nikci is a player with potential who we trust with full conviction to assert himself in the Bundesliga. He convinced us with his two-footed ability and his speed, in Zurich he last acted on the left wing. "
