Afrodite Superstar , also AfroDite Superstar is an American porn film that is considered to be women-friendly and artistically valuable.

The film is a romantic comedy that is about Afrodite (Simone Valentino), a newcomer who turns into a sexy rapper. Afrodite comes from the suburbs and is discovered and promoted by the hip-hop manager CEO while playing karaoke . Together with her friend Isis Peterson, she records CDs and videos and gets to know musicians, artists and producers with whom she develops sexual relationships. However, she loves CEO who does not reciprocate that love and sees her as an object to make money from.

The film is the first release by Femme Chocolate, a label from Candida Royalle 's Femme Productions label that primarily focuses on the female African American audience in the USA without conveying the otherwise common racism.

The director Venus Hottentot, like Larry Clark , Matthew Barney , John Cameron Mitchell , Vincent Gallo , Michael Winterbottom and Gore Vidal with the films Destricted , Shortbus , The Brown Bunny , 9 Songs and Caligula, is one of the mainstream filmmakers who make thought-provoking, make intelligent films with explicit sexual content. As an intellectual feminist with an art college degree, she wanted to make a film that showed positive sexual portrayals of women of color to contrast the mainstream images in pop-culture music videos, films, and magazines. She chose the name Venus Hottentot to reflect on the spirit of the South African Khoi woman known as Sarah Baartman , who was exhibited in Europe in 1810 because of her greatly enlarged labia and her fat rump and sexually exploited as Vénus hottentote . It is believed that Venus Hottentot is the TV presenter and novelist, art filmmaker Abiola Abrams .

Afrodite Superstar was organized by the American Association of Sex Educators support and was on 20 March 2007 at The New School for Social Research in New York City as a preview shown with a discussion on women of color and sexual images in the context of Terry Williams, professor in Sociology at the New School for Social Research, as part of his Sex in the City series. The work is considered the first pornographic film to quote Gloria Steinem and Bell Hooks . He was recommended by expert Tristan Taormino in the 2007 Sexy Gift Guide in the weekly newspaper The Village Voice .

In her book X - Porn for Women stressed Erika Lust pluralism and multiculturalism, which is higher even at normal porn films than with other film genres, is also clear, however, that the African-American audience in the United States requires its own porn movies, since Afrodite Superstar of Femme Chocolate is served. Above all, she praises the aesthetics and the musical groove of the film, accompanied by sex scenes that are characterized by mutual respect. The end credits, in which Afrodite dresses to a hip-hop rhythm, emphasizes, in her opinion, the desire of Venus Hottentot to “paint a different picture of the colored women in pop culture and hip-hop video clips are unfortunately only seen as objects whose only ability is to move their (always perfect) buttocks to the beat of the music ”.

In the review of the website pornmoviesforwomen.com, Afrodite Superstar was recommended as a unique and unusual film that significantly raises the hurdle for future films. In their opinion, Afrodite Superstar is an independent film, which has been supplemented by hardcore scenes that sometimes don't really fit and, with the exception of the last scenes between Afrodite and the CEO, contribute little to the story. In her opinion, Venus Hottentot brings a fresh perspective into the porn sector, especially since she had not previously worked in it and gave the actors acting lessons.

Blair Underwood's debut novel "Casanegra" also happens to be about a rap superstar named Afrodite.

The film was nominated for six other AVN Awards in 2008: Best Video Feature, Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actress (Simone Valentino), Best Supporting Actress (India), and Best Supporting Actor (Mr. Marcus).
