Albert Wucher

Albert Wucher (born September 6, 1920 in Lindenberg im Allgäu ; † December 27, 2010 in Munich ) was a German journalist and author of contemporary history books.

Life

Albert Wucher received his Abitur in 1939 at the humanistic grammar school in Dillingen an der Donau . From 1938 to 1945 he was a soldier in the German Wehrmacht , most recently as a first lieutenant . After the war, he studied history and German in Freiburg im Breisgau and received his doctorate in Tübingen in 1949 from the ancient historian Joseph Vogt with a thesis on Theodor Mommsen . Wucher joined the editorial team of the Süddeutsche Zeitung in 1949 and stayed there his entire professional life until 1985. The third Reich was the main focus of his journalistic work and his book publications . Between 1968 and 1978 he was Italy correspondent in Rome . For the Süddeutsche Zeitung he reported on the Eichmann trial and the Second Vatican Council. In 1981 he became a professor in the journalism course at the Institute for Journalism at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and retired in 1985 . Advised by Karl Otmar von Aretin , Wucher produced a series about the Weimar Republic for ZDF .
