Albert Christian Adolf Karl Eugen zu Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (born March 15, 1863 in Kiel , † April 23, 1948 in Glücksburg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , president of the German Aviation Association and a member of the Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg family , a branch line of the House of Oldenburg .

Life

Albert was the youngest son of Duke Friedrich von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1814–1885) and his wife Adelheid Christine , née Princess zu Schaumburg-Lippe (1821–1899), the second daughter of Prince Georg Wilhelm and Princess Ida Karoline Luise von Waldeck-Pyrmont . Albert was the grandfather of Ernst August von Hanover through the marriage of his daughter Ortrud to Ernst August IV, Prince of Hanover (1914–1987).

Military career

He embarked on a career as an officer in the Prussian Army and was commander of the Guard Cuirassier Regiment from November 20, 1903 to January 26, 1909 . He was then commissioned to lead the 21st Cavalry Brigade in Frankfurt am Main and shortly thereafter appointed commander of this brigade . On February 18, 1913 he was given the character of Lieutenant General à la suite in the army. In a family agreement of 1904, Albert's succession rights were recognized in the Oldenburg Grand Duchy in the event of the extinction of the ruling grand ducal line.

Albert married Countess Ortrud zu Ysenburg and Büdingen (1879–1918), daughter of Count Karl von Ysenburg and Büdingen (1819–1900) and his wife, Countess Agnes von Ysenburg and Büdingen (1843–1912) on October 14, 1906 on Meerholz ). The marriage had four children:

After Ortrud's death, he married Hertha zu Ysenburg and Büdingen, daughter of Bruno zu Ysenburg and Büdingen and Bertha zu Castell-Rüdenhausen, on September 19, 1920 in Büdingen . The daughter Ortrud Bertha Adelheid Hedwig (1925–1980) emerged from the marriage.
