Albrecht Wilke

Albrecht Wilke (born January 10, 1843 in Gützkow ; † October 5, 1902 in Gandersheim ) was a German teacher and school director .

Life

Albrecht Wilke was born in Gützkow, 20 km south of Greifswald , in 1843 . He attended high school in Anklam and then studied mathematics and natural sciences with a focus on chemistry at the University of Greifswald from 1864 to 1868 . He worked for a short time as a private tutor , passed the state examination for teaching in July 1870 and worked as a teacher in Sønderborg that same year . Wilke took part in the Franco-German War in 1870/1871. In 1873 he became a teacher at the secondary school in Wollin and in the same year went to a secondary school in Kiel . In 1881 he was appointed teacher and headmaster at the secondary school in Gandersheim in the Duchy of Braunschweig . He successfully operated the expansion of this school into a secondary school , which was then converted into a high school with a secondary school in 1899 . Wilke's main achievement can be seen in the creation of this first higher middle school in Gandersheim. In addition, he published educational papers and was active in local politics. He was a member of the city ​​council for several years , chairing it from 1893 to 1900.

Wilke received the title of school director in 1883 and the title of professor in 1895 . He was awarded the Knight's Cross Second Class of the Ducal Order of Henry the Lion . In 1901 he was made an honorary citizen of Gandersheim. Wilke retired in 1901 at his own request and died in Gandersheim in October 1902 at the age of 59.
