Aleksandar Mitreski ( Macedonian Алескандар Митрески ; born August 5, 1980 in Ohrid ) is a former Macedonian football player who also has Swiss citizenship .

Career

Mitreski grew up in Switzerland and started playing football at SC Ittigen, a suburb of Bern . At the age of 12 he moved to the junior department of BSC Young Boys . There he was taken over to the first team in 1999, which, however, had to be relegated to the National League B for the second time after 1997 in his first year. Two years later, the re-emergence into the managed National League A . In 2002 he was signed as a defensive midfielder by Grasshopper Club Zurich for a transfer fee of 1 million Swiss francs , but ultimately played as a central defender . At the end of the season, the club won the championship. In the following years, the Swiss record champions were not so successful in the league, after all Mitreski was still in the cup final in 2004 and played in the UEFA Cup group stage in 2005/06 .

For the 2006/07 season , the Macedonian moved to the German second division club 1. FC Köln , where he was a regular for two years. However, after Cologne's promotion to the 1. Bundesliga on September 1, 2008, he moved back to the 2. Bundesliga for 1. FC Nürnberg . Here he signed a one-year contract. The reason for the late commitment was that the Nuremberg captain Andreas Wolf had torn a cruciate ligament in the first game of the season . However, Mitreski came in the 2008/09 season on only two missions when he played through on the fourth and fifth matchdays. Both games took place away from home, so he was never seen in his own stadium. The main reason for the few missions was a protracted injury. In mid-May 2009 it was announced that Mitreski will leave the club at the end of the season.

For the 2009/10 season Mitreski moved to the Swiss first division club FC Sion , but was dismissed without notice in early April 2010 after visiting a casino with his teammates António dos Santos and Aleksandar Prijović the night before a league game.

For the second half of the 2010/11 season Mitreski moved to the Swiss second division club FC Aarau , which signed him at least until the end of the season.

Shortly after his contract in Aarau expired in the summer of 2011 , he ended his active career.

National team

Mitreski was a long-time Macedonian national player . From 2003 he was regularly used in the national jersey. He was last used in early 2008 in the game against Serbia (final score 1: 1). He played 34 international matches, but could not score a goal.
