Alexander Christian von Buttel

Alexander Christian von Buttel (born January 25, 1836 in Ovelgönne , † July 23, 1923 in Oldenburg (Oldb) ) was a German administrative lawyer and from 1896 to 1908 regional president of the Principality of Lübeck .

Life

Buttel was the son of the law firm assessors and later Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Ministry of Oldenburg Dietrich Christian von Buttel (1801–1878) and his second wife Helene Catharina nee. von Thünen (1806–1878). He attended grammar school in Oldenburg and, like his father, studied law in Heidelberg , Berlin and Göttingen from 1855 to 1859 . He then entered the Oldenburg civil service and, after completing the usual preparatory stages, became an auditor in Westerstede in 1865 . Four years later he was transferred to the Department of Finance as an unskilled worker, and on November 1, 1875, he was appointed lecturer in the Department of Home Affairs. In 1887 he was promoted to the Upper Government Council and in 1896 to the Secret Upper Government Council . From July 1, 1896 to November 1, 1908, he served as the District President of the Principality of Lübeck, an exclave in Holstein belonging to the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg . His official seat at that time was the residential city of Eutin . After his retirement he lived in Oldenburg, where he had been a member of the literary and sociable association since 1909.

Buttel was married to Marianne Caroline, born in Hamburg . Kentzler (September 5, 1844 - January 13, 1919), the marriage had two daughters and one son.
