Anton Barnstedt

Anton Georg Friedrich Barnstedt (born April 10, 1799 in Delmenhorst , † January 25, 1872 in Eutin ) was a German administrative lawyer and from 1857 to 1871 district president of the Principality of Lübeck , an exclave of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg .

Life

Barnstedt was born as the son of the Chamber Assessor and later Mayor of Delmenhorst Johann Friedrich Barnstedt (1750–1839) and his second wife Caroline Friederike Agnese born. For his services to the border treaty, King Ernst August I of Hanover awarded him the Guelph Order 4th Class in 1843 , which Grand Duke August I first had to approve. On August 13, 1857, Barnstedt was appointed as the successor to Carl Zedelius as the District President of the Principality of Lübeck. The principality was created in 1803 with the secularization of the Lübeck bishopric and belonged in personal union to the domain of the dukes / grand dukes of Oldenburg . It lay as an exclave on the northern border with the imperial city of Lübeck and expanded to the north. During Barnstedt's service, the federal execution against the duchies of Holstein and Lauenburg and the German-Danish War took place . The principality was directly affected by these events due to its geographical location and, despite Oldenburg's membership in the German Confederation, saw itself as neutral . As President of the Government Barnstedt was directly involved in the diplomatic entanglements connected with the events, for example in the protest against the storming of the Schwartau barrier by Prussian troops . On May 1, 1871, he retired at his own request and died three quarters of a year later. Barnstedt's successor in office was Johann Ernst Greverus .

Barnstedt married Friederike Marianne Elisabeth born on September 18, 1827. von Benoit (1803–1868), daughter of Major Georg Wilhelm von Benoit (1777–1824). The couple had five children. August Barnstedt , senior judicial officer in Oldenburg in the Principality of Birkenfeld , was his brother.
