Alexander Hawkins (born May 3, 1981 in Oxford ) is a British jazz pianist and organist .

Act

Hawkins is co-founder of the Transatlantic Convergence Quartet , with Dominic Lash , Taylor Ho Bynum and Harris Eisenstadt ; the band toured the UK twice in 2006 and 2009 and recorded two albums. As a Hammond organist, he has played with Steve Noble and John Edwards in the Decoy formation since 2009 . In addition, he leads his own sextet and was part of the cooperative project Barkingside with Alex Ward (2008 album on Emanem). He also worked a. a. with Louis Moholo , Mulatu Astatke , Ntshuks Bonga , Lol Coxhill , John Butcher , Steve Williamson and Eddie Prévost , as well as with the London Improvisers Orchestra , the Oxford Improvisers Orchestra and the Pendulum Big Band, and as organist in the funk band Big Train's Haymaker .

Prizes and awards

Hawkins was nominated for Musician of the Year by All About Jazz in 2010; El Intruso led him as best keyboardist for the same year. The Guardian selected All There, Ever Out as one of the best albums of 2012.
