Dominic Lash

Dominic Lash (* 18th January 1980 in Cambridge ) is a British jazz - bassist who in Oxford improvisation scene operates.

Live and act

Lash, son of the theologian Nicholas Lash , first played the guitar before switching to the double bass in 2001. He studied a. a. at Basstech in London, in 2003 he obtained a master's degree in composition from Oxford Brookes University , where he a. a. studied with Paul Whitty and Ray Lee. In 2010 he received his doctorate from Brunel University on metonymy in the work of Derek Bailey , Helmut Lachenmann and JH Prynne . In Oxford he played a. a. with Tony Conrad , Joe Morris , Evan Parker , Steve Reid , John Butcher / John Russell and Nate Wooley . He is co-founder of the transatlantic Convergence Quartet , with Alexander Hawkins , Taylor Ho Bynum and Harris Eisenstadt ; he also worked with Alex Ward ( Barkingside , 2008), in the Imaginary String Trio with Philipp Wachsmann and Bruno Guastalla , and in the London Improvisers Orchestra and the Oxford Improvisers Orchestra ( 4 Compositions For Orchestra , 2010). He made his record debut in 2006 as the head of a brass ensemble with the 7-inch single Tongues of Fire / Smokin 'Jo Crow / Washerwoman's Brawl . Lash, who temporarily lives in New York, is currently working with The Set Ensemble and his improvisational project representations and in duo / trio projects with Chris Cundy, Alex Ward, Pat Thomas and Mark Sanders . In 2009 he gave several concerts in London with Theo Jörgensmann and Sebastian Rochford .

Lash moves stylistically in the field of jazz, free improvisation and contemporary music. With the Set Ensemble he is also involved in performances of music by Edition Wandelweiser . a. by Manfred Werder , Eva-Maria Houben , Jürg Frey , Michael Pisaro and Radu Malfatti .
