Alexander von Arentschildt

Alexander Carl Friedrich von Arentschildt or Arentsschild (born October 14, 1806 in Lüneburg , †  May 14, 1881 in Hanover ) was a Hanoverian and Prussian lieutenant general . He was the last commanding general of the Hanoverian Army .

Life

origin

Alexander came from the Bremen noble family von Arentschildt . He was a son of the Russian major general Wilhelm von Arent (s) schildt (1761-1835) and his wife Johanne Caroline Wyneke (1771-1836).

Military career

He began his career in 1822 as a cadet in the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Hanover Army . He then advanced to secondary lieutenant in 1824 and prime lieutenant in 1828 , and in 1845 to captain . As such he became company commander in the 3rd Infantry Regiment and took part in the campaigns in Schleswig-Holstein in 1848/49 . In 1855 he became a Major promoted and rose in 1858 continue on to Lieutenant Colonel and 1860 to Colonel ; In 1861 he became the commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade. In 1863 he became major general, and when the German War broke out in 1866 he was lieutenant general and commanding general. Appointed to the head of the army, he commanded it on the day of the battle of Langensalza and concluded the subsequent surrender, which resulted in the dissolution of the army. He then transferred to Prussian service on March 15, 1867 and shortly afterwards took his leave.

family

He married on April 18, 1839 in Hildesheim Johanne Wilhelmine Karoline Sophie Herzog (* October 5, 1820 in Nordhausen; † May 17, 1897 in Hanover). The couple had several children:

  • Emma Sophie Julia (born May 2, 1848), canoness in Isernhagen
  • Adolf Karl Friedrich Julius (born January 3, 1854), Colonel a. D. ⚭ 1892 Adele Luise Auguste de Dumas de l'Espinol (born March 13, 1862)
  • Auguste Helene Henriette (born November 4, 1855), canoness in Barsinghausen
