Alexei Andrejewitsch Tscherepanow ( Russian Алексей Андреевич Черепанов ; scientific transliteration Alexej Andreevič Čerepanov ; born January 15, 1989 in Osjorki , Altai region , Russian SFSR ; † October 13, 2008 in Chekhov , Russia ) was a Russian ice hockey player . During his career he played for the junior and senior teams of the HK Awangard Omsk , most recently in the Continental Hockey League , on the position of the right winger. He was considered one of the league's most hopeful Russian talents.
Career
Tscherepanow played for HK Awangard Omsk when he was young , where he proved his talent with two very good seasons, in which he scored 147 points in 55 games. After a few appearances for the second team of the professionals from Awangard in the Russian third division , he made his debut in the Superliga during the 2006/07 season and scored more points in his first season than the Russian NHL professionals Yevgeny Malkin and Alexander Ovechkin in their debut seasons . With 18 hits, he even set a record as the most accurate new professional.
He represented his native Russia at the 2007 U20 World Cup in Sweden . He not only won the silver medal, but also shared the top scorer award with Erik Johnson , was named the best attacking player and was appointed to the All-Star team. In the same year Tscherepanow was with the U18 national team gold medalist at the U18 World Cup in Finland, where he was also appointed to the All-Star Team.
Tscherepanow was traded as one of the five most promising candidates for the NHL Entry Draft 2007 , but was only selected at position 17 by the New York Rangers .
With a Russian U20 selection , he competed in the Super Series 2007 against a Canadian U20 national team , but had to leave the series after two out of eight games due to a concussion. At Avangard Omsk, Tscherepanow was able to build on his good performance from the previous season with 28 points in 46 games in 2007/08, but he did not show an increase. At the U20 World Cup in 2008 he was again one of the best players on his team, which won the bronze medal, with three goals and three assists .
Also in the 2008/09 season he did not move to the NHL , but stayed with HK Awangard Omsk, who was before his first season in the newly founded KHL . Tscherepanow had a very good start to the season and got twelve points scorer in the first 14 games, which clearly improved him compared to the previous season.
death
In his 15th game on October 13, 2008, he scored his eighth goal of the season against Vitjas Chekhov . Towards the end of the game he collapsed on the bench and died a short time later. Several attempts at resuscitation failed.
The following day it became known that Cherepanov was said to have suffered from chronic ischemia , as a result of which his organs were not adequately supplied with blood. The disease had not been detected in sports medicine examinations in previous years. In addition, there was no ambulance with medical staff present at the time of his collapse. In the course of the investigation, the Russian authorities found that Cherepanov had used blood doping . According to a report by the investigators published at the end of December 2008, he is said to have practiced this for several months. In addition, the report said that he from chronic myocarditis should have, an inflammatory disease of the heart muscle suffered, and no competitive sports should not have to exercise. The drug cordiamine was also found in his blood , which is used, among other things, to stimulate the blood circulation and the respiratory system. Cherepanov had taken the drug, which is on the list of prohibited substances of the world anti-doping agency WADA , a few hours before his death. The disciplinary committee of the KHL released the team doctors from their duties in the course of the investigation and demanded the suspension of the manager and the president of the team pending clarification.
On October 20, 2008, before Awangard's first game after Cherepanov's death, the club announced that their jersey number 7 would no longer be given to any player.
