Alfred Graf and Burgrave zu Dohna-Schlobitten (born January 6, 1852 in Brunau ; † December 16, 1929 at Finckenstein Castle ) was a German officer in the Prussian army.

Life

Count Dohna was the son of Burgrave Heinrich Eduard Fabian Hermann zu Dohna-Brunau (* June 21, 1821, † February 16, 1859) and his wife Lydia nee. von Auerswald (born October 18, 1827 - † August 15, 1898).

He attended the Marienwerder high school . During the Franco-Prussian War he joined the 1st Guard Dragoon Regiment "Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland" of the Prussian Army on July 19, 1870 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant on September 27, 1870 . Since mid-November 1893 major , he was transferred to the Westphalian Uhlan Regiment No. 5 in Düsseldorf in 1897 . On July 3, 1899, he became commander of the Magdeburg Dragoon Regiment No. 6 and on March 11, 1900, commander of the Leib-Guard-Hussar Regiment in Potsdam . On 16 June 1900 he rose to lieutenant colonel , and in 1901 it became adjutant of Kaiser Wilhelm II. On September 12, 1902 Colonel promoted, he took over on April 24, 1904, the command of the 4th Guards Cavalry Brigade in Potsdam. Promoted to major general on November 17, 1906 , he assumed command of the Guard Cavalry Division in Berlin from September 2, 1907 to September 22, 1911 . Promoted to Lieutenant General on March 3, 1910 and appointed Prussian Military Plenipotentiary in Saint Petersburg on September 23, 1911. At the beginning of the First World War, Dohna served in August 1914 as adjutant general in the 8th Army in East Prussia . On September 9, 1917, he replaced General Ferdinand von Quast as commanding general of the Guard Corps on the Western Front during the Battle of Flanders . As a characterized general of the cavalry , he died shortly before his 78th birthday.
