Alfredo Ernest Novak

Alfredo Ernest Novak CSsR (born June 2, 1930 in Dwight , USA ; † December 3, 2014 in Campina Grande do Sul , Brazil ) was an American religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Paranaguá .

Life

Alfredo Ernest Novak joined the Congregation of the Redemptorists in 1951 and put the profession on. After studying theology (1954/58) and philosophy (1951/53) in Oconomowoc , Wisconsin, he was ordained a priest on July 2, 1956 . In 1958 he came to Brazil. He spent ten years doing missionary work in the Brazilian Amazon region. From 1968 to 1979 he was in the Brazilian Bishops' Conference CNBB in the media sector (MSC) and as general secretary of the Campanha da Fraternidade (CF) .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on April 19, 1979 auxiliary bishop in São Paulo and titular bishop of Vardimissa . The Archbishop of São Paulo, Paulo Evaristo Cardinal Arns OFM , donated him episcopal ordination on May 27, 1979 ; Co- consecrators were José Ivo Lorscheiter , Bishop of Santa Maria , and Aloísio Ariovaldo Amaral CSsR, Bishop of Limeira . His episcopal motto was Enviou-me a proclamar a Boa Nova.

On March 15, 1989 he was appointed Bishop of Paranaguá by John Paul II . On August 2, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.

For his services in the state of Paraná he was awarded honorary citizenship in 2013.
