from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alias , real name Brendon Whitney , (born April 5, 1976 in Hollis , Maine , † March 30, 2018 in Portland , Oregon ) was an American rapper and producer in the fields of hip-hop and electronica . He was a founding member of the Anticon collective.

Life

Brendon Whitney was born in 1976 to an organist and a jazz musician. He was interested in music of all kinds from an early age, but there were few opportunities to pursue his interests in Hollis. His love for hip-hop was aroused by a television show on the US TV station NBC , which featured a few short rap video clips. Enthusiastic about this type of music, he started reading hip-hop magazines and received his first drum computer for Christmas 1992 .

From the age of seventeen Whitney began actively to rap and produce himself. He met several like-minded musicians and founded the group Deep Puddle Dynamics in 1998 together with Slug , Sole and DoseOne . A year after the group was founded, the group released their debut album, The Taste of Rain ... Why Kneel? via the Anticon label co-founded by Alias .

He died of a heart attack on March 30, 2018 at the age of 41 .

In 2003 his second album Muted was released , also through Anticon. It is his first instrumental album. Keyboarder Dax Pierson, rapper The Pedestrian and singer Markus Acher from The Notwist provide guest contributions . The song Sixes Last is released as a single .

His third album Resurgam will be released in 2008. This is also an instrumental album. Guest posts come from Why? and The One AM Radio.

In 2011 his fourth album Fever Dream will be released via Anticon.
