action

Lawrence Whatley Bourne III is a student at Yale University . He accumulates gambling debts, goes into hiding and becomes a member of the Peace Corps . As such, it is used in Thailand , where a bridge is being built. Bourne meets Beth Wexler and Tom Tuttle, who were entrusted with the same task by the Peace Corps. He invites Wexler to join him; she only agrees when he promises her real cola.

The CIA, communist rebels and a local drug lord want to take control of the bridge. After talking to the leader of the communists, Tuttle becomes a staunch hater of capitalist imperialism , against which he railed in passionate tirades. The drug lord has Wexler kidnapped by a CIA agent who works with him; Bourne frees the woman.

Wexler suggests blowing up the bridge. The local residents enthusiastically agree. Tuttle wants to prevent the demolition and threatens the people with a stick of explosives. After a couple of slaps, he remembers that he is American and helps with the project.

The bridge is blown up right in front of the approaching communist rebels and mercenaries of the CIA. Bourne and Wexler stay together, they open a profitable casino in Southeast Asia.

Reviews

The London magazine Time Out wrote that the film was a "cynical exploitation" of numerous films such as The Bridge on the River Kwai , Apocalypse Now , Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Casablanca . Hanks portray sexist and racist clichés with "winning charm". The film is funny.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a "slapstick film with parodic swipes at war films".

The film was in the grounds of Yale University in New Haven ( Connecticut ) and in Venezuela rotated. It grossed approximately $ 19.9 million in US cinemas .
