Timothy Thomerson (born April 8, 1946 in Coronado , California ) is an American actor .

Life

Thomerson grew up in San Diego . There he met Brion James , with whom he served in the US Army during the Vietnam War . He then worked as a stage technician at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego and later went to New York City , where he lived for several years with his then wife Frances Delgado and Brion James in the home of the famous acting teacher Stella Adler . The three Californians worked as Adler's assistants and received free acting lessons. During his time in New York, Thomerson began to gain prominence as a stand-up comedian . In New York, he performed in prestigious stand-up clubs such as The Bitter End and Catch a Rising Star , and after graduating from Stella Adler in the mid-1970s and returning to California, he made regular appearances in Los Angeles at The Comedy Store and The Improv . The anecdote that Thomerson beat up comedy store colleague Robin Williams , who was also up-and-coming , because he stole gags from him comes from this period ; in reality, however, there were probably only verbal arguments.

Parallel to his engagements as a comedian, Thomerson had his first acting roles on television, for example in an episode of the series Mannix in 1975, in the pilot film by Laverne & Shirley in 1976 and in Harry O , in 1977 in the series Quark , in 1978 in Hawaii Five-Zero ( Hawaii Five- O ) and Starsky & Hutch and 1979 in Mork vom Ork ( Mork & Mindy ). First roles in movies followed; he starred with Richard Pryor in the comedies Car Wash (1976) and What's Up? ( Which Way Is Up? ) (1977), and in 1978 gave him Robert Altman , who Thomerson his stand-up performances had seen in a a role in The Wedding ( A Wedding ).

Since the early 1980s Thomerson has concentrated on his acting work and has appeared in countless film and television roles. Arguably his most popular fanatic role was that of time-traveling cop Jack Deth in Charles Band's low-budget science fiction film Trancers (1985). By 1994 there were four trancer sequels in which Thomerson also played the leading role. Other low-budget auteurs such as Albert Pyun also cast Thomerson regularly. In 2012 Thomerson starred alongside Cerina Vincent in Steven R. Monroe 's action thriller MoniKa .
