The Osterman Weekend (original title: The Osterman Weekend ) is an American thriller by Sam Peckinpah from 1983 based on the novel of the same name by Robert Ludlum .
action
The television journalist Tanner, who is critical of the authorities, meets every year with three friends and their families for the so-called "Osterman Weekend". In addition to Tanner and his wife Ali, these are Osterman, Tremayne with his wife Virginia and Cardone with his wife Betty. Tanner is approached by the CIA agent Fassett. His friends are under suspicion of espionage and the CIA wants to monitor the meeting. When the meeting begins, there is a lot of tension. The friends and their wives get into an argument. Tanner's son finds a dog's head in the refrigerator, which turns out to be an imitation. Tanner wants to end the whole thing and secretly meets with Fassett. They notice that Osterman has followed Tanner. Fassett wants to have Osterman liquidated, but he can escape into the house. Meanwhile, Tremayne and Cardone try to escape with their wives in Tanner's car.
Tanner meets Osterman in the house, who is informed of the suspicion of espionage by Tanner after a brief fight. Osterman admits that he and his friends transferred money to Switzerland to save taxes. The friends and their wives have since been killed by a bomb in Tanner's car. From the outside, Fassett switched to the broadcast signal of the television and confirmed Osterman's statement. The CIA has since found out the truth about the group. Nevertheless, Fassett wants Osterman and Tanner to be killed.
There is a fierce battle in the house. Ali and her son managed to escape; she kills some agents herself with a bow, but is then taken hostage along with her son. Of the CIA agents, only Fassett survived the fight. He explains to the two that he wants revenge on CIA director Danforth. The espionage suspicion was a ruse to get Danforth in trouble. Danforth ordered the murder of Fassett's wife years ago. Now Tanner is supposed to get him to betray himself in his show. That is the condition for the release of the wife and son.
Osterman and Tanner are preparing an interview tape because Danforth can only be interviewed over the phone. Danforth gets behind the plan to expose him, but it's too late. Fassett can enlighten television viewers about the machinations of the director. Meanwhile, Tanner, who recorded the questions for the show before it aired, went to Fassett to get his wife and son. Fassett draws a gun, but Tanner is faster and shoots him. He's not sure, but he thinks Fassett pulled so slowly to get shot.
