Alpu station

Alpu is a city in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Eskişehir and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Eskişehir (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 1993 . Alpu is located about 35 kilometers east of the center of Eskişehir .

The Ilçe is located in the northern center of the province. It borders on Mihalıççık and Beylikova in the east, Mahmudiye in the south, Odunpazarı and Tepebaşı in the west, Sarıcakaya in the north-west and the province of Ankara in the north . A connecting road from Eskişehir and Mahmudiye to Mihalıççık runs through Alpu. The city is located in the valley of the Porsuk Çayı River , to the north of which is part of the Sündiken Dağları Mountains .

The northern border of the district with the province of Ankara is formed by the Sakarya river , which is dammed up there to form the Gökçekaya Barajı and Yenice Barajı reservoirs. In the southeast of the district is the Yayıklı Göleti , another, smaller reservoir.

According to the city logo, Alpu received the status of a municipality ( Belediye ) as early as 1954 and became an independent district in 1987. Until then it was part of the central district ( Merkez ) Eskişehir as Bucak Alpu .

The railway line from Istanbul - Haydarpaşa to Ankara runs through Alpu .
