When it happened

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When it happened is a collection of 16 short stories by the Austrian writer Reinhard Wegerth from 2016. It was created as a counterpart to Stefan Zweig's great moments of mankind and deals with man-made catastrophes of the last few decades.

As in “Damals und there” (2010) and “Earlier and here” (2013), Wegerth personified the things involved in “When it happened” and lets them report on the events themselves. In contrast to his previous books, however, he did not choose events from his personal biography for his new work, but rather incidents that shook the global community.

reception

“I was particularly impressed by the text about 9/11. A lot has been written about it, tens of thousands of pages. I don't know if there are many there who shake so soberly as the eight pages on which Wegerth lets the collapsed twin towers have their say. "

“Reinhard Wegerth's book, so much for orientation, is enlightening, not voyeuristic. And the factual reports of cases from 1977 to 2011 are still exciting to read. "
