Altenhain , known by post as Altenhain (Taunus) before the regional reform in Hesse , is a district of Bad Soden am Taunus in the Main-Taunus district in southern Hesse .
history
The oldest surviving documentary mention as Aldenhagen refers to the years 1204-1220. That Altenhain must be even older can be indirectly concluded from the fact that the neighboring Neuenhain has been attested since 1191. The name ending in -hain indicates that the settlement arose after the year 1000 on cleared woodland and was surrounded by a moat for protection.
In Altenhain, as in an imperial village, there were peasants belonging to the king who sat on the royal estate and next to them court peasants who belonged to the Fronhof of the Limburg monastery in Sulzbach. The royal estate and the associated rights gradually passed to the owner of the bailiwick. In the bailiwick of the Sulzbacher Mark , the lords of Falkenstein, von Eppstein, von Sulzbach and von Königstein alternated. 1581 Altenhain went to the Palatinate , 1650 in Bergsträßer recess at Kurmainz and 1803 Nassau-Usingen and belonged to the time of the Duchy of Nassau for office Koenigstein .
During the Reformation, Lutheran worship was introduced around 1535. With the rule of the Electorate of the Palatinate, the Calvinist creed came to Altenhain in 1581. After the takeover by Kurmainz in 1650, the reformed faith was retained. The Catholic worship service was on an equal footing. Many families changed from the Reformed to the Catholic faith under the new sovereign.
The regional reform in Hesse changed Altenhain in two stages. On August 1, 1972, the Altenhain settlement Johanniswald was incorporated into the city of Königstein and assigned to the Schneidhain district . On January 1, 1977, the remaining Altenhain was incorporated as a district in the city of Bad Soden am Taunus. Since then, independence from the city as a whole has been limited to its own local court and arbitration office .
Culture and sights
Buildings
The old town hall was probably built in the 16th century. In 1652 it was repaired as a "council chamber", the clock and bell tower are mentioned in 1695.
In the years 1706–1710 the Catholic Church of the Birth of Mary was built from half-timbering, which was replaced in 1931 by a stone building made of field stones and ashlars using decorative brickwork. It was created according to plans by the Bavarian church builder Albert Boßlet . The church was shown in model at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair .
The indie pop band Morning Boy was founded in 2008 in Altenhain.
The association, registered since 2009, Altenhainer Theater eV, has been performing its plays in the "Zum Grünen Baum" inn since 1991.
societies
The purpose of the Altenhainer Geschichtsverein eV is to research and present the history of the closer homeland, in particular Altenhain and its district, and to contribute to the preservation of its cultural assets. This is to be achieved by collecting and processing local history material, by working on a local history collection, through publications in association news, daily newspapers and specialist journals. Since it was founded in May 2008, the “young” history association has regularly organized a cultural lecture evening on the first Thursday of each month. The evenings are well attended and are kept lively and attractive by image and film contributions. The audience is involved and actively involved in the event, for example when reading old documents and unraveling picture and photo documents. The interest and the response to the Thursday meeting under the motto "Alehaan village history (s)" is still great and motivated to continue researching Altenhain history.
The Altenhainer Kerbeburschen around the church fair have a long tradition in Altenhain. From 1976 to 2010 the Alehaaner Wuzzekerb was celebrated every year on the 2nd weekend in September . The tradition died out over the years. Since 2016 a new generation of notch boys has brought the tradition back to life. The Wuzzekerb is now celebrated as a hall curb in the “Zum Grünen Baum” inn. Since 2017, the Kerbeburschen have found female support with the Wuzze-Madels.
Sports
The Altenhainer Tennis -Club (ATC) eV was founded in 1974 and (as of 2018) has around 120 members. It was not until 1984 that the association managed to provide its own tennis courts for its members. The four teams of the club ( women 50, men 40, 50 and 70 ) play (as of 2018) in the group league (women 50 and men 70), district league A (men 50) and district upper league (men 40) of the Hessian Tennis Association . In the early 2000s, the then women 40 played in the Hessian Association League for several years .
