Altenmarhorst is located in the northern area of the town of Twistringen, 3 km northwest of the core town of Twistringen. The village of Altenmarhorst is made up of the districts Altenmarhorst, Neuenmarhorst and Horst.

history
Since the regional reform , which came into force on March 1, 1974, the previously independent municipality of Altenmarhorst has been one of eight localities in the city of Twistringen.
Parish
In 1921, the Church of the Immaculate Conception , built in the previous years, was consecrated. From 1965 to 2010 the parish of Marhorst was an independent parish, but it had not had its own pastor since 1989 and had been part of the community association with the parishes of St. Anna Twistringen, St. Ansgar Bassum and Christ König Harpstedt since 2000.

The village of Altenmarhorst has a lively club life. In addition to a shooting club, there is the SV Marhorst sports club and the Unser Marhorst home club . The place also has its own fire fighting group, which is affiliated with the Twistringen volunteer fire department.
Shooting club
The Marhorst shooting club was founded in 1911. Every year he organizes his shooting festival, which takes place on the first weekend in July. What is special is that it starts with a mass on Sunday morning and the main day is the following Monday. On this day, the Komers traditionally takes place at the reigning Schützenkönig.

Altenmarhorst is far from the main traffic. The federal motorway 1 runs north, 15 km away. The federal road 51 leading from Bassum via Twistringen (Kernort) and Diepholz to Osnabrück runs 3 km southwards, while the state road L 342 runs from Twistringen (Kernort) via Goldenstedt to Vechta through the village.
In Altenmarhorst - in contrast to some of the smaller districts of Twistringen - there are street names and not just house numbers , so that residents, postmen, suppliers and visitors can find their way around.
