The Am Riedert nature reserve is located in the forests south of the Zwickauer Mulde, belonging to the Eibenstock municipality . It is part of the Natura 2000 area "Upper Zwickau Muldetal" and is one of the "remnants of near-natural mountain forests" of the Western Ore Mountains that are important from a nature conservation point of view .

Protected position

After a temporary seizure in 1958, the area was placed under protection in 1961 by a legislative act known as an “order” by the Ministry of Agriculture, Registration and Forestry of the GDR and today has the code number C 22 . The Saxon Ministry of the Environment describes the protection purpose of this nature reserve in its publication "Nature reserves in Saxony" from 2008 as follows:

Preservation of the spruce (fir) beech forest as a mountain mixed forest typical of the highlands of the Western Ore Mountains with its animal and plant communities. Preservation and promotion of the silver fir (Abies alba). Promotion of the natural structural diversity of the forest.

It is part of the Natura 2000 area “ Upper Zwickauer Muldetal ” (SITECODE: DE554030), sub-area 3) because the aim is to protect the habitat type according to the Habitats Directive “9110- Hainsimsen-Buchenwälder ”.

description

The area is located on the northern slope of the mountain range, which slopes steeply towards the Zwickauer Mulde, in the same valley as the Große Riedertbach and a nameless stream flowing towards it. The south-east border is formed by the Tannenweg, the south-west a lane and in the northernmost area it is crossed by the Rautenkranzer Straße, a closed forest road. The terrain slopes steeply towards this road. In a north-north-west direction, the residential area “Altes Wiesenhaus” belonging to Schönheide on the Zwickauer Mulde is about two kilometers away. The northeast border is about 500 meters south of the Riedertberg (775.3 meters). To the south-east is the mountain "Zeisiggesang" (922.4 meters) about 1,500 meters away. The former residential area Wilzschmühle is in a south-west direction at the same distance. According to the natural space map of Saxony, the nature reserve belongs to the mesogeochore "Eibenstocker Bergrücken", the upper third to the microgeochore "Slope at Zeisiggesang" and the lower part to the "Rautenkranz-Schönheider Mulde valley". The area, like the whole of the “Eibenstocker Ridge”, is classified as “medium very humid mountain areas” with an annual temperature of 6.35 ° C and precipitation of 1,051.12 millimeters per year.

The nature reserve is considered to be a mixed mountain forest with old firs and beeches typical of the region. There are 17 old trees and 38 middle-aged trees on silver firs. The Westerzgebirge Landscape Management Association emphasizes on its website that it is the best-growing fir trees in the Ore Mountains.
The presence of these species is reported for the bird fauna:

For decades, the nature reserve was fenced off against game browsing. The fences could be removed because of the reduced game population. In 2017 they were no longer available.

At the north-eastern corner of the nature reserve there is a 70 centimeter high granite stone on which “L. Kropp a. June 29, 1878 ”. The “Brotmannstein” reminds of a baker from Carlsfeld who was robbed and killed here. In map sheet 145-Section Eibenstock of the topographic map (equidistant map) from 1911 the stone is registered as a monument with the designation "Krapps Monument". It is not yet entered in the equidistant map of 1897.
