history
The Hermannsdorfer Meadows were created in their present form, in particular through regular mowing to obtain hay. Small amounts of peat were also extracted in several places . When the need for hay extraction decreased in the 20th century and the mountain meadows began to decline, this area was acquired in 1914 as one of the first by the Saxon Heritage Protection Association for the purpose of preservation. The nature reserve has existed within its current boundaries since an expansion in 2005.
